Chestnut hat

The idea for this hat emerged one day when I was
collecting chestnuts by our large chestnut tree.
There were a lot of spiked chestnut shells,
which inspired me – it turned into a hat with spikes on.

Size:
premature: Head circumference 33 – 35cm.
0 – 3 months: Head circumference 36 – 38cm.
3 – 6 months: Head circumference 39 – 42cm.
6 – 12 months: Head circumference 43 – 45cm.
2 – 4 year: Head circumference 46 – 49cm.
5 – 9 year: Head circumference 50 – 52cm.
10 – 16 year: Head circumference 53 – 55cm.

Yarn:
Spindrift, 100% Pure Shetland Wool from Jamieson’s of Shetland.
Shades:
50g shade 259 Leprechaun (LE) – for hat.
25g shade 812 Prairie (PR) – for spikes.

Needles:
A small, 40cm circular needle 3mm (US 2.5).
Double pointed needles (DPNs) 3mm (US 2.5) for
casting off the hat.
Crochet hook for the wool spikes.

Tension:
10×10 cm = 24 st and 38 rows stocking stitch on
3mm (US 2.5) circular needle.
